Standardization
I work at the cafe which is not franchise, not fast food kind nor fancy. But I like it. I like the way it is. really old, Chairs are not the same, table sizes are different, walls are painted in different colors, and old but mixed with modern lighting, tall ceiling(typical San Francisco style) and nothing is brand new or shiny.
Sometimes, people come in and order like they do in Starbucks. I like Starbucks, don't get me wrong. Starbucks is pretty much safe coffee. Peet's coffee is too bold for me. Tally's is hard to find. Coffee beans and tea leaf is also hard to find. Of course there is North beach to go get the cafe, but too far away from my neighbor. Anyway, these customers some times complain about how we make or sizes. But hey, you are not in Starbucks, if you like their way, please go there. I am not mad, okay? That is not our fault or we are wrong. It is just a difference. I've believed America is a free country. But I just realized people get really nervous when it is not the same way as they know. I think that is really weird. If everything is the same, that will freak me out, for sure. I know there is common sense, and similar ways the people act or something like that. But, well, I don't know. Some times, I feel like people are not flexible in here. I cannot image going to small town in somewhere in the middle of this country.
And one more thing, what I was surprised is people think I am city gal and go to parties every weekend or so. Well I love parties and expensive stuff and fancy dinner and all that. But not all the time. I love walking down to small booth to get Tostadas on Alabama St.x 21st St.. They are great too. It is not always true that you can get best food if you pay like $300 for dinner. I only pay $3 (for 2 tostadas) and $1 for coke and that is best food too. What I think is, you need to know what is good and what is bad. To know all that, of course it takes time and money. I really thank my parents for letting us to try good food since we were really little. My sister is really picky about food, for sure :P
